What is Tuesday Club?

Tuesday Club is a weekly group program for children in Grades 4,5 and 6.

Who is Tuesday Club for?

The program is design for children who are having a difficult time in their friendships with peers and their relatiohships with adults. Examples of the difficulties which Tuesday club might help with, are:

    • Lacking self confidence and reluctant to get involved with peers.
    • Difficulties in making and keeping friends.
    • Find it hard to identify and express feelings.
    • Behaviour sometimes seems inappropriate or unusual.
    • Getting into trouble with teachers or other adults.
    • Sometimes lack self-control and is seen as 'challenging'.
  • What happens during the program and what can I expect from my child's participation in 'Tuesday Club'?
The program involves structured play and creative activities. The Group Facilitator and volunteer assistants engage the children in activities which are designed to :
    • boost confidence and develop strengths
    • stimulate creativity
    • encourage positive communication and negotiation
    • increase understanding about feelings and the link between feelings, thoughts, and behaviour
    • encourage self-control.

Tuesday club will not transform children, nor eradicate difficult behaviours. However, it will provide opportunities for children to practice and strengthen useful behaviours. This learning may then be continued with the help of parents and others.
