What Family Services offers:
- Counselling – individual and family sessions
- Group activities
- Information and referral to other services
Family Counselling Services:
ROK’s Family Counselling service provides skilled and experienced counsellors who work with families to address problems causing family distress.
The Family Counsellors arrange appointments to see families at ROK at a mutually convenient time. Sometimes the whole family may be seen together, or parts of the family may be seen separately.
Group Activities
ROK offers the following groups as part of its Family Counselling service:
- “Tuesday Club” and “Feeling Cool” - Social skills development groups for primary school aged children, with a parallel parenting component
- Parenting information and support groups
- ”Time 4 you” - A friendship group for women experiencing or who have had the experience of post natal depression
- “Reach Out 4 Dads” – A group where dads explore the issues that arise for fathers. The group focuses on different topics and strategies around parenting
ROK in partnership with other agencies provides other types of parenting information and support programs including information for migrant families and young parents.
Family Services can assist with:
- Family conflict
- Separation and parenting issues are common causes of distress.
- Grief & Loss,
- Brief and unresolved traumas
- Child and adolescent’s development and behaviours change.
- School Issues – the child who does not seem to fit in at school, who lacks friends or who seems to be getting into trouble
Family Counselling Eligibility
Family Counselling is available to families with children aged from birth to 18 years, living, working, (or young person attending school) in the City of Whitehorse or surrounding areas.
Some assistance can also be provided to residents of Whitehorse who do not fit these criteria, but who may need to discuss personal problems.
